Chat only

Ask questions and explore ideas without changing code.

Chat only

Chat only is for questions, explanations, and product thinking when you do not want the agent to change files.

Use it to learn, compare options, or clarify a decision before planning or building.

What Chat only is useful for

Use Chat only to:

  • Ask how a feature works.
  • Understand a project structure.
  • Brainstorm product copy.
  • Compare implementation approaches.
  • Ask for a review checklist.
  • Learn what to test before publishing.

What Chat only should not do

Chat only should not make project mutations. If you want the agent to edit files, use Build mode (Agent). If you want a structured plan before edits, use Plan mode.

Copyable Chat only prompts

Explain how this onboarding flow should work.
Do not edit files.
Give me the main user steps, edge cases, and what I should verify.
Review this idea before I build it:
I want a lead capture page for a consulting offer.
What sections should it include and what should I avoid?
Do not make project changes yet.

Good uses before building

Chat only is a good first step when:

  • You are still deciding what to build.
  • You want to understand terminology.
  • You need a checklist.
  • You want to reduce scope before spending credits on a build.

Limitations

Chat only answers are guidance. They are not a substitute for testing your project, checking source files, or reviewing product behavior in the preview.
